How Often Should You Get a Facial?

It's the question we're asked more than almost any other, and there's no single right answer, but there is a helpful way to think about it.

It Depends on Your Skin, Not the Calendar

As a general guide, most skin benefits from a facial every four to six weeks. That's roughly how long it takes your skin to complete a full renewal cycle, so treatments spaced around this point tend to build on each other nicely rather than working against fresh, still-settling skin.

That said, "most skin" isn't your skin specifically, and that's really the heart of it. If you're managing something like congestion, breakouts or sensitivity, you might need more frequent, gentler visits to begin with. If your skin is in a good place and you're simply maintaining it, you may only need to see us every couple of months. There's no badge of honour for coming more often than your skin actually needs.

Why Homecare Matters Just as Much

Here's the part that often gets missed: a facial once a month isn't going to transform your skin on its own, no matter how good the treatment is. Think of your facial as the reset and the expert input, and your homecare routine as everything that protects and builds on that in between.

Your skin is working, and being worked on, every single day — not just the day you're in our chair. The cleanser you use, whether you're wearing SPF, how you're treating your skin at night, all of it either supports what we do in a treatment or gently undoes it before your next visit. A good homecare routine doesn't need to be complicated, but it does need to be consistent, and it should be built around your skin specifically rather than whatever's trending.

This is exactly why we always talk homecare through with you as part of your treatment, not as an afterthought. We'll recommend what genuinely suits your skin, explain why, and keep it realistic for your routine and your budget. It's also worth remembering that skin changes with the seasons, your hormones, your stress levels and more, so what worked brilliantly for you last year might need a small tweak now — that's a completely normal conversation to have with your therapist.

The Honest Answer

The honest answer is: it depends, and that's not us dodging the question — it's genuinely the case that a 20-year-old managing occasional breakouts, a 40-year-old focused on collagen support, and someone easing back into facials after a break all need different rhythms.

That's why we always start with a proper conversation about your skin rather than simply booking you in for whatever's next in the diary. If you're not sure where to start, or it's been a while since your last visit, just ask us at your next appointment — we're always happy to talk it through and help you find what suits your skin, and your life, best.
